Overview
Good concrete starts before the truck shows up.
Concrete is simple to pour and easy to get wrong. Most of the slabs that heave, sink or split in half across Barrie had problems long before the finish: a thin or soft base, no reinforcement, poor drainage, or no plan for where the slab would crack.
We excavate and compact a proper granular base, form to the right grade so water runs off, set reinforcement, and place and finish the concrete in the right conditions. Control joints are cut so the slab has somewhere to move.

How we build it
Four layers, done in order.
The finish gets the attention, but the base, reinforcement and joints decide how the slab holds up through winter.
- 01Concrete slab
Placed, finished and cut with control joints so cracking happens where we plan it, not across the middle.
- 02Reinforcement
Steel reinforcement set in the slab to hold it together as the ground moves through the seasons.
- 03Compacted granular base
A stable, well-drained bed under the slab. Skip this and the slab settles or heaves.
- 04Compacted subgrade
Excavated, compacted and sloped for drainage before any concrete arrives.
Signs it’s time
Signs a slab needs replacing.
Heaving or sinking
Sections lifted by frost or settled into a soft base.
Wide cracks across the slab
Cracks that keep growing, often where no control joints were cut.
Water running toward the house
A slab pitched the wrong way, pushing water at the foundation.
Crumbling surface
Flaking or spalling from freeze–thaw and salt.

Concrete or interlock — which should I choose?
Concrete gives a clean, continuous surface; interlock is easier to repair in sections and offers more patterns. We’ll talk through both for your space.
Will my concrete crack?
All concrete can crack. Control joints, a proper base and reinforcement make sure it cracks in planned places rather than across the middle.
How soon can I use it?
Foot traffic usually within a few days and heavier use after it has had time to cure. We’ll give you specific timing for your project.
Is the work guaranteed?
We’re fully insured, and all of our work comes with a limited workmanship warranty — ask us for details when we quote.
