A walkway is the most-used piece of stonework on most properties — the route from the driveway to the front door, the path to the backyard, the steps down to the patio. It gets foot traffic every day, shovels and salt every winter, and meltwater every spring.
We build walkways on the same compacted base as our patios, with consistent step heights, proper pitch so water sheds off, and edges restrained so nothing creeps into the lawn. Steps are sized to be comfortable and safe, with solid footing on every tread.

How we build it
Built like a patio, because it is one.
A walkway takes the same freeze–thaw punishment as a patio, so it gets the same layered base.
- 01Polymeric sand
Swept into the joints and set with water. Locks the pavers together and keeps weeds and ants out.
- 02Pavers
The surface you see. Material, colour and pattern are chosen with you at the design stage.
- 03Bedding layer
Screeded flat by hand so every paver sits at the right height — no dips, no wobbly stones.
- 04Compacted granular base
Crushed stone placed and compacted in lifts. This carries the load and is what keeps a patio flat through freeze–thaw.
- 05Geotextile fabric
Separates the base from the soil so the two don’t mix — the hidden reason older patios sink.
- 06Compacted subgrade
Native ground dug to depth, compacted, and graded so water runs away from the house.

Ice that won’t drain off
A path pitched the wrong way holds water and freezes.

Interlock or natural stone for a walkway?
Interlock is uniform and easy to repair; natural stone has a softer, one-of-a-kind look. We’ll show you both when we quote.
Can you replace just the front steps?
Yes. Steps can be rebuilt on their own and tied into the existing walkway.
Will salt damage a new walkway?
Quality pavers and stone handle winter well. We’ll recommend the right de-icer for your surface.
Is the work guaranteed?
We’re fully insured, and all of our work comes with a limited workmanship warranty — ask us for details.
